About Bowtie Term Critical Illness (Multiple Cover) Waiting Period
There is a 90-day waiting period from the Policy Effective Date for the first Major Critical Illness claim. For Multiple Cover Benefit, there is a 2-year waiting period from the date of diagnosis of the last claim. Except for newly primary, recurrent, metastasised or continued Cancer after the first Cancer claim, illnesses diagnosed or Major Surgical Procedures completed will only be covered after the waiting period.
In simple terms, if the first Major Critical Illness claim has been made 90 days after the Policy Effective Date, each subsequent claim must be separated by at least 2 years. Any illnesses diagnosed or Major Surgical Procedures completed during the 2-year waiting period will not be covered.
However, in the case of "newly primary, recurrent, metastasised or continued Cancer after the first Cancer claim" where the Insured Person has already received a previous Cancer claim, newly primary Cancer diagnosed within the 2-year waiting period or recurrent Cancer will still be covered subject to the requirements below:
For a new primary Cancer |
|
For a recurrent, metastasised or continued Cancer |
|
Example 1
On 1 May 2022, the Insured Person was diagnosed with Heart Attack and received 100% of the Sum Insured for his first Major Critical Illness claim.
Later, on 1 May 2023, he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, which was his first Cancer claim. However, this Cancer claim is subject to a 2-year waiting period. Even if the Cancer still exists after the end of the waiting period, it will not be covered under the Multiple Cover Benefits.
Unless the Lung Cancer appears after the end of the waiting period and is not related to the previous Heart Attack claim, then it will be covered.
Example 2
On 1 May 2022, the Insured Person was diagnosed with Brain Cancer and received 100% of the Sum Insured for her first Cancer claim.
Later, on 1 May 2023, she was diagnosed with a new primary Cancer as Breast Cancer. However, it was subject to a 2-year waiting period as she had already received the payout for Cancer and would not receive compensation.
Therefore, if Breast Cancer still exists after the end of the waiting period, it will be covered after the waiting period, even though it was diagnosed during the waiting period.
Example 3
On 1 May 2022, the Insured Person was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer and received 100% of the Sum Insured for his first Cancer claim.
Later, on 1 May 2023, his diagnosed Colorectal Cancer recurred. From 1 May 2023 to 1 May 2024, he had received active treatment for that Colorectal Cancer within 12 months prior to the claim.
As he had already received the payout for Cancer, it was subject to a 2-year waiting period. Therefore, if Colorectal Cancer still exists after the end of the waiting period, it will be covered after the waiting period, even though it recurred during the waiting period.
