How does the underwriting process work? Do I need to undergo a physical examination when I apply for insurance?

  • Updated

Bowtie leverages Hong Kong’s first-of-its-kind fully online medical underwriting system to evaluate applicants’ health conditions instantly.

We only need some answers related to your health conditions in multiple-choice via our online platform. Just like a health questionnaire!

No medical examinations (except Bowtie Pink applicants whose age is between 66 and 80*) or paper forms are required.

Our underwriting specialists will evaluate your answers and decide to proceed with the application or not. If necessary, our specialists may seek more information from you, such as previous medical reports, physical examination or blood test to judge the risk of declared diseases after the questionnaire.

Answering the questions honestly will help us formulate the best terms and coverage for you. It also speeds up the approval process. If certain questions are omitted, we may need more time to review your application. In addition, if deliberate concealment or omitted details are found during the insurance claims, we reserve the right to reject reimbursement requests, or even cancel the insurance policy.

*The insured person whose age is between 66 and 80 must visit designated clinics and complete the following health assessments for underwriting, after applying for Bowtie Pink:

  1. Health Assessment
  2. Resting electrocardiogram
  3. Urinalysis
  4. Blood tests include:
    • Liver function test
    • Kidney function test
    • Complete blood count
    • Lipid (Cholesterol)
    • Fasting blood glucose
    • Glycosylated hemoglobin
    • Hepatitis B surface antigen

The results from the health assessment are only for underwriting. Additional fee will be charged if the Insured Person requests for the medical report.
