Term Life
The maximum standard sum assured (non-medical limit) allowed is HK$ 8,000,000, subject to the current age limit. For more details, please refer to point 4 in the "For increasing the sum insured" section. After considering personal needs and financial conditions, if you would like to obtain a sum assured that exceeds the non-medical limit, e.g. 20,000,000, you must first apply for Bowtie Term Life insurance that does not exceed the standard sum assured (non-medical limit). We recommend that the sum insured matches the maximum non-medical limit for your age. Subsequently, you can follow the procedure outlined in the "For increasing the sum insured" section below to increase your sum insured.
For increasing the sum insured:
- You need to apply for a new policy for the additional sum assured. As your health conditions may change since the application of your existing policy, the final underwriting decision and premium may be different. You are subject to the conditions and exclusions of the new policy, including the waiting period stated in the suicide exclusion clause. You have the flexibility on which/both policies to downgrade or terminate.
- Your existing policy will remain effective. The health declaration date and effective date of your existing policy will remain unchanged. Your previous protection and rights remain in place.
- Body check may be required upon approval. According to our underwriting guidelines, if the total life insurance coverage in Bowtie (including the sum assured in application) exceeds the non-medical limit, the insured person may need to undergo a one-time medical examination, and the cost will be fully waived. This is to further determine if we can provide coverage for the insured person.

For decreasing the sum insured:
- You may submit the request no less than 15 days before the next policy anniversary renewal.
- The new sum assured will be effective on the next date of anniversary renewal under a new policy number, and the waiting period will not be re-calculated.
- Your existing policy will become ineffective. When your request is approved and effective, your existing policy will become ineffective on the same day.
